About Alyssa

Alyssa has been writing her whole life, without realizing it; a story in grade one about learning how to train dolphins (with very cute hand-drawn crayon illustrations), a poem written in her parents’ backyard in Waterloo, and escapist fiction started in highschool. It was all creative, all second-nature, and only realized at a later date.

Alyssa graduated from the Creative Writing & Publishing degree program at Sheridan College in Mississauga, ON. She has also earned a Professional Writing diploma from Algonquin College in Ottawa, ON. When not editing Alyssa enjoys writing microfiction, poetry, essays, and book reviews. Alyssa contributes occasionally to Dominionated.ca and edits the scripts for the This is a Thing video essay series created by the Cinemasters on YouTube.

Alyssa relaxes best by not relaxing at all. She is typically found with a project in hand---whether that’s knitting, writing, something musical, or some other wild new idea.

(Maybe) Interesting Facts

Alyssa plays bass guitar (and guitar), alto saxophone, violin, drums, and she sings.

At the age of 25, Alyssa decided she wanted to learn motorcycle mechanics. (It's not going great. Her bike has sat for a year and probably needs more work because of that.)

Before settling into editing and writing, Alyssa wanted to do many things. Some of those include, but are not limited to:

  • being a nun,

  • studying marine biology,

  • joining the army,

  • becoming a sailor,

  • buying a farm,

  • etc.
